BusinessLINC is a partnership between America's business community, the federal government and others to encourage large corporations to work with small business owners and entrepreneurs in America's rural areas and inner cities. BusinessLINC (Learning, Information, Networking, and Collaboration) is designed to stimulate business-to-business relationships that produce one-on-one technical advice and consulting, classroom and group training, peer group consulting, strategic alliances, and supplier and marketing development, and otherwise assist small businesses to compete successfully.
BusinessLINC operates on both the national and local levels. The Business Roundtable, based in Washington DC, manages the BusinessLINC National Coalition, which serves as a resource and advisory committee for local chapters. BusinessLINC chapters are located in Atlanta, Chicago, Dallas, Boston, Washington and the Lower Mississippi Delta.
Delta BusinessLINC
The Delta is the only rural BusinessLINC chapter. Small businesses in the Delta typically have less access to mentoring and technical assistance than those in urban areas. Entergy and FedEx are the initial corporate members of Delta BusinessLINC. Entergy CEO Wayne Leonard is chairman of the Delta chapter. The Enterprise Corporation of the Delta (ECD) is the lead intermediary for Delta BusinessLINC.
ECD will work with Mentor Companies to assess the needs and opportunities for working with small Delta businesses; define benefits for Mentors, their employees and Proteges; and facilitate Delta BusinessLINC activities and relationships.
Specifically, ECD will provide the following services:
- Assess buyer-supplier opportunities and inventory existing vendor/small business assistance programs;
- Determine mentoring capacity;
- Conduct matchmaking between Mentor Companies and Delta firms and facilitate ongoing mentor relationships;
- Broker related technical assistance and training to complement mentor relationships;
- Develop benchmarks for measuring/evaluating success, assess mentor/protege relationships;
- Organize support/participation by banks and other business development organizations in BusinessLINC;
- Provide and broker financing for qualifying Protege Firms.
