SRI - Money and Morals: Faith-Based Credit Unions Lend More Than a Helping Hand - Clarion Ledger September 2, 2008 - As foreclosure rates rise to new heights, Mary Rhodes is counting her blessings. The Rankin County School District bus driver recently moved with her 17-year-old son into a new home in Morton. "The Lord led me to this," she said about the three-bedroom, two-bath house she closed on in June. "It was move-in ready. All I had to do was paint." Full Story

Hope Community Credit Union Breaks Ground for New Gulf Coast Branch in Biloxi (Biloxi, MS) - Hope Community Credit Union (HOPE), a community development credit union, is bringing exactly what its name suggests to Mississippi Coast residents that lack access to affordable financial services. Home Again Places Final Modular Homes (PASS CHRISTIAN, MISS)--In the wake of Hurricane Katrina, residents of the Gulf Coast were left with the daunting task of rebuilding their lives and their homes. HOPE Helps Local Residents Take Advantage of Valuable Tax Credit Jackson, Miss.--People who work but dont earn a lot of money may be eligible for the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC), as well as free help preparing their tax return. HOPE (Hope Community Credit Union), in participation with the IRSs Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program, will help local residents take advantage of the EITC on January 31st. The last day in January is designated as EITC Awareness Day, a nationwide effort to increase public awareness about EITC and free tax preparation sites. Full Story

1,000 Homeowners Closer to Rebuilding Their Lives after Hurricane Katrina MISSISSIPPI GULF COAST Today the Enterprise Corporation of the Delta (ECD) announced that one-thousand homeowners on the Mississippi Gulf Coast are a giant step closer to rebuilding their lives in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina as a result of free Phase II Homeowner Counseling services. The Mississippi Development Authority contracted with ECD to provide financial counseling to homeowners who receive funds from Phase II of the States Homeowners Assistance Grant Program.
