Community Development

Through the Emerging Markets Partnership (EMP), ECD collaborates with public, private and nonprofit organizations to leverage resources and expand regional capacity. An extension of the Mid South Delta Initiative (MSDI), EMP is underwritten by the W.K. Kellogg Foundation and bolstered by a major commitment from Fannie Mae.  The main goals of the EMP are to:

Promote job creation, retention and advancement;

Stimulate entrepreneurship and business development;

Foster asset development among low- and moderate-income individuals and families; and

Strengthen infrastructure that enables Delta businesses and workers to successfully compete in the new economy.

ECD accomplishes its goals by focusing its partnership, leveraging, investment and technical assistance activities on the sectors of enterprise development, housing and healthcare.  For some examples of ECD's EMP activities, please click on the Enterprise Development, Housing and Health Care Links on your left.  ECD also draws from its program implementation experience to inform policy makers about best practices and lessons learned to expand the impact of its work regionwide.

By engaging in these strategies, ECD provides organizations and communities with the tools to improve the quality of life for Delta residents.
